Our last new moon in Sagittarius inspired us to dream big and define how we want to live our lives more authentically. With these dreams in hand, this practical new moon in Capricorn pushes us to turn them into a reality. Capricorn is the cardinal Earth sign, ruler of discipline, structure, financial matters, traditions, and values. This is our first new moon of 2021 and is a great opportunity to plan for the year to come. The new moon is also in conjunction with Pluto, the ruler of rebirth, transformation, and matters of the subconscious. With these two combined, it makes for some potent intention setting.

The themes below are specific for this Capricorn new moon, but they are meant to help you decide which goal you should tackle first and help inspire some serious new moon intention setting.

Take a moment to step outside of the capitalist mindset and ask yourself: if money was not a necessity for survival, what would you do? What would your occupation be? If you currently have one, think about your job or career path. Are you doing what you want to be doing? Are you where you want to be in your career? Are you even in the right field? These are all things that Capricorn brings up for us. Maybe your dream job requires you to further your education first. Start looking at schools and putting a plan in place for applying to them. Maybe you really enjoy your job, but its not paying the bills. It's time to start drafting a promotion or raise proposal and figuring out the best time to talk to your boss. Hate your job but don't know what else to be doing? That's okay too! Start thinking about what you currently enjoy doing and explore career options from there. No idea or dream is too farfetched or out of reach.

Capricorn is the sign of history, traditions, values, ancestors, and foundations. These themes are the core of what makes us who we are. Our values and ancestors are what define us. Take some time to connect with what matters most to you and let it inform how you want to approach your intention setting. We can also get inspiration from the past by looking to our ancestors. If you have the privelege to do so, do some research into your ancestral lineage. Research their traditions and see if you can incorporate some elements into your daily life. This will help you remain focused on your intention. If you're feeling stuck, lost, or overwhelmed, these are all great resources to explore to help you ground and get inspired to set your new moon intentions.

With Capricorn, there are no obstacles too great. The Seagoat can swim to the deepest depths of the ocean and climb to the peaks of the highest mountains. Anything is possible as long as you're willing to dedicate yourself to the task at hand and be persistent. Don't let self-limiting beliefs stand in your way of achieving what you truly desire. Will the journey be difficult? Yes. Will there be times you want to throw in the towel and walk away? Probably. When times get tough or when the negative self-talk begins, just remember what you're working towards. The views from the top of the mountain are worth every grueling step of the steep journey.

As you settle down and start to think about what intentions you want to set for this new moon, keep your eyes on the prize. Remember your long term goals and push forward with what you can in this moment. To help gain some insight, here is a new moon tarot spread.
